Swiatek Advances to Stuttgart Quarterfinals with Strong Performance

Sports News

Iga Swiatek continues her winning streak in Stuttgart.

After receiving a bye in the first round, the world No. 2, Iga Swiatek, secured her place in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix quarterfinals by defeating Croatian qualifier Jana Fett in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

`I`m happy to have found my rhythm,` Swiatek commented after the match. `I allowed myself time to adjust to the court and everything else. It felt fantastic, and I`m pleased to have another opportunity to play here.`

Swiatek has been a dominant player on clay courts throughout this decade, and her Stuttgart record reflects this. In her fourth appearance at this tournament, she has consistently reached at least the quarterfinals.

Key Stats from Swiatek`s Victory

Here are some notable numbers highlighting Swiatek`s recent clay-court victory:

11: Swiatek`s record at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix now stands at 11 wins and 1 loss. She previously won the title in both 2022 and 2023, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in both finals. Her sole defeat in Stuttgart was against Elena Rybakina in last year`s semifinals, who went on to win the tournament.

18: With her win against Fett, ranked No. 153, Swiatek has now won her last 18 matches against players ranked outside the Top 150.

Her last loss to a player ranked below No. 150 was over four years ago, against Ana Konjuh, who was ranked No. 338 when she defeated Swiatek at the 2021 Miami Open. (Note: Alexandra Eala, ranked No. 140, defeated Swiatek in Miami earlier this year.)

0: Swiatek played a flawless first set, not facing a single break point. Fett also showed resilience, saving six of eight break points in the first set, but struggled to gain ground on Swiatek`s serve.

1:16: In the second set, Fett briefly gained momentum, breaking Swiatek`s serve in the opening game and taking a 2-0 lead. However, Swiatek quickly regained control, winning the next six games to conclude the match in 1 hour and 16 minutes.

9: Double faults proved costly for Fett, as she committed nine throughout the match. One double fault lost her the first set, and another on Swiatek`s second match point ended the match.

81: In contrast, Swiatek`s serve was highly effective. She only lost her serve once and won 81 percent of her first-serve points.

0-4: Fett`s record against Top 10 players is now 0-4. However, she has previously come close to a Top 10 victory, holding two match points against No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki in the second round of the 2018 Australian Open. Wozniacki recovered to win that match and went on to win her first Grand Slam title at the tournament.

0-5: In the quarterfinals, Swiatek is set to face either No. 7 seed Emma Navarro of the United States or Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, the 2017 Roland Garros champion.

Swiatek has a 2-0 record against Navarro. However, Ostapenko presents a tougher challenge, as Swiatek has never defeated her in their five previous encounters, including a loss earlier this year in Doha.
