Supercomputer Predicts Championship Season: Wrexham Aims for Play-Offs, Ex-Premier League Trio Faces Drop

Football News

A new supercomputer simulation for the upcoming Championship season suggests Wrexham is set for a fourth consecutive dramatic campaign.

However, the outlook is less positive for former Premier League side Watford, who are predicted to be relegated to League One for the first time in 48 YEARS.

Experts at AceOdds utilized a sophisticated computer system that simulates every fixture 10,000 times to generate highly accurate predicted outcomes.

The simulations calculate game results based on a team`s current form and league position, as well as incorporating betting market odds.

The findings are quite striking. Wrexham, who recently achieved an unprecedented three consecutive promotions, is given a real chance of competing for a place in the Premier League.

The Red Dragons, who endured a challenging 15-season spell in the National League before their takeover by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are projected to finish within the play-off positions next season.

Speculation links Wrexham with high-profile players like Jamie Vardy and Ben Davies. The club`s ambitions for top-flight football remain alive, potentially securing sixth place ahead of Bristol City on goal difference.

Meanwhile, the advanced AI algorithm predicts that Southampton will achieve immediate promotion back to the Premier League by winning the Championship title.

Southampton, who appointed former Lens boss Will Still after their relegation, are expected to face a fierce title challenge from Sheffield United, predicted to secure automatic promotion on their second attempt.

Other teams relegated from the Premier League this season – Ipswich, Leicester, and Frank Lampard`s Coventry City – are also tipped to reach the play-offs alongside Wrexham.

Birmingham City, with investment from Tom Brady, recorded a remarkable 108 points in League One last season. They are predicted to secure a respectable top-half finish in the Championship.

With a predicted 65 points, Birmingham (the Blues) are set to finish above local rivals West Brom and established clubs like Stoke City and Middlesbrough.

Newly promoted Charlton Athletic is expected to avoid an immediate return to League One, finishing six points clear of the relegation zone according to the simulation.

In the relegation battle, Derby County and Hull City are predicted to join Watford in the drop to the third tier of English football.

Watford last competed in the third division (then the Football League Third Division) during the 1977-78 season.

Derby finished 19th last season. Hull is tipped to finish rock-bottom, despite narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day this past season after Luton`s loss to West Brom.

The supercomputer suggests clubs like Preston, QPR, Middlesbrough, and Oxford United will narrowly escape relegation.

Norwich, Millwall, Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday, and Swansea are predicted to finish comfortably in mid-table positions.
