Stuttgart Draw: World’s Elite Tennis Players Ready for Action

Sports News

The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix draw was revealed on Sunday, showcasing a star-studded lineup. Eleven of the world`s top 20 players are set to compete for the coveted WTA 500 title on indoor clay at the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart, marking the start of the European clay-court season.

The singles champion will be awarded €142,610, 500 ranking points, and a Porsche Macan Turbo, one of the most desirable prizes on the tour.

The main draw action begins on Monday, April 14, and culminates with the singles final on Monday, April 21. There will be no matches on Friday, April 18, due to Good Friday.

The top four seeded players, who also hold the top four positions in the PIF WTA Rankings, will receive a bye in the first round.

Draw Highlights:

First Quarter

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka leads this section. She is aiming for her first Stuttgart title after finishing as runner-up for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023.

After her first-round bye, Sabalenka will play either Anastasia Potapova or Clara Tauson in the second round. If the seedings hold, Sabalenka is projected to face No. 8 seed Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinals.

Second Quarter

No. 4 seed Coco Gauff headlines this quarter. She awaits the winner of the match between Danielle Collins and wild card Tatjana Maria in the second round.

All four German wild cards are placed in this quarter. No. 5 seed Jasmine Paolini is positioned at the opposite end of this quarter and could potentially face home wild cards in her first two matches. A second-round match between Paolini and 2017 champion Laura Siegemund is a possibility.

Third Quarter

This quarter could potentially feature a quarterfinal showdown between two of the most successful players of the year: No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula and No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva, if seedings are maintained.

Pegula enters Stuttgart fresh off winning the first clay-court WTA 500 title of the season in Charleston. She currently leads the Hologic WTA Tour in main-draw match wins this year with 25.

However, 17-year-old Andreeva is close behind in victories. The young player has already secured 20 match wins this season, boosted by consecutive WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells.

Fourth Quarter

No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek is at the bottom of the draw. Swiatek has a strong 10-1 record in Stuttgart, winning the title in 2022 and 2023 before her perfect streak was broken by Elena Rybakina in last year`s semifinals.

If Swiatek reaches the quarterfinals, she might face No. 7 seed Emma Navarro. Alternatively, a quarterfinal match against former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko is also possible, especially considering Ostapenko`s 5-0 head-to-head record against Swiatek.
