England football legend Stuart Pearce has shared details about a recent health scare during a flight. Medical professionals on board had to restart his heart after he experienced an emergency at 30,000 feet.
Earlier this month, Pearce`s health issue caused his flight to London to be diverted to Canada, as reported by The Sun.
Pearce, 62, known as “Psycho,” mentioned, “My heart started racing a bit.”
“The onboard medical team was fantastic. After three hours, they decided to land in St John’s, Newfoundland.”
“Hospital staff there essentially stopped my heart and then restarted it to restore a normal rhythm.”
Speaking to The Sunday Times, he added, “I spent five days in the hospital and an additional five days in a hotel awaiting medical clearance, effectively turning it into an extra ten-day break.”
“They believe a virus was the cause.”
The incident occurred on March 2nd as Pearce was returning from Las Vegas, where he had watched his favorite rugby league team, Warrington Wolves, play against Wigan Warriors.
Upon his return to the UK, he told TalkSport, “I nearly met my maker last week… but he told me it wasn`t my time and sent me back.”
“But honestly, I`m feeling much better.”
“During the flight, I felt chest pains but received excellent care.”
Pearce has since recovered completely and resumed his role as a commentator for TalkSport, covering England`s 2-0 win against Albania the previous Friday.
