The main-draw entry list for the Internationaux de Strasbourg tournament has been revealed this week. The competition for the final WTA 500 clay-court title of the season is set to feature seven players from the WTA`s Top 20 rankings.
Among the notable entries is two-time winner Elina Svitolina. She aims to become the first player to capture the Strasbourg title three times since Anabel Medina Garrigues achieved the feat in 2008.
Ukrainian star Svitolina is enjoying a remarkable clay-court season this year. She has won her initial nine matches on clay on the WTA Tour. Recently, Svitolina reached the semifinals in Madrid, marking her first WTA 1000 semifinal appearance since 2021.
Svitolina`s victory in Strasbourg in 2023 was particularly significant, as it was her first WTA title following her return from maternity leave earlier that year. Her first win in Strasbourg came in 2020.
Also confirmed for the main draw is Barbora Krejcikova, a previous Strasbourg champion and the reigning Wimbledon titleholder. Krejcikova secured her first WTA singles trophy in Strasbourg in 2021, shortly before claiming her maiden Grand Slam singles championship at Roland Garros that same year.
The list of entrants includes Top 10 players Paula Badosa (World No. 9) and Emma Navarro (World No. 10). In addition to Svitolina and Krejcikova, other Top 20 players confirmed to participate are Daria Kasatkina, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Liudmila Samsonova.
Former Grand Slam winners and finalists are also set to compete, including 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, and past Grand Slam finalists Danielle Collins and Leylah Fernandez.
Information regarding wild card entries for the tournament will be announced closer to the start date. Main-draw matches in Strasbourg are scheduled to commence on Sunday, May 18.
