Last week was uneventful in terms of major tour-level or WTA 125 events on the Hologic WTA Tour, resulting in minimal changes within the Top 50 of the PIF WTA Rankings this week.
However, impressive performances at ITF level tournaments hint at potential future breakthroughs. Anastasia Zakharova triumphed at the Zaragoza ITF W100, while Solana Sierra was victorious at the Bellinzona ITF W75. These were the two most significant tournaments of the week.
Sierra`s victory in Switzerland marks her tenth consecutive win. Prior to this, the Argentinian player secured her first WTA 125 title at Antalya 3. Her record for 2025 is currently an impressive 21-5. This success propels the 20-year-old up ten positions from No. 119 to a career-best ranking of No. 109.
Zakharova`s win in Spain was her third ITF W100 title in the last ten months, and her first on clay courts. The 23-year-old`s ranking improves by 20 places, moving her from No. 127 to No. 107, just shy of her career high of No. 106 achieved in November.
Rising Stars: Quevedo and Ekstrand Make Significant Gains
Kaitlin Quevedo, a Spanish wild card entrant, surprised many by reaching the final in Zaragoza. Notably, she defeated No. 2 seed Olivia Gadecki in the semifinals, securing her first victory against a Top 100 player. The 19-year-old, who had a strong 2024 season with a 49-20 win record and improved her year-end ranking from No. 726 to No. 317, jumps 66 places from No. 332 to a new career high of No. 266 after this final.
Monika Ekstrand, another teenage wild card, also excelled on home ground two weeks prior. The 17-year-old American clinched her first professional title at the Jackson ITF W35, and her ranking leaps 445 spots from No. 1,176 to No. 731.
