Serena Williams makes a Met Gala entrance … after ‘one meltdown’

Sports News

A tweet from Serena Williams on X late Monday night hinted at a dramatic start to her evening, posting, “And one meltdown later, we are finally on the way to the Met Gala.”

While the specifics of this “meltdown” were not disclosed—keeping in mind the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion is also a mother of two—fashion critics universally agreed that her eventual arrival was well worth the wait.

Making a striking appearance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art`s annual fashion summit in New York City, the 43-year-old Williams stepped onto the blue carpet. For her seventh time attending the Met Gala, she partnered with Italian luxury brand Moncler, arriving in a stunning icy pale-blue gown featuring a bold sheer panel down the leg, complemented by a silver satin cape that resembled a duvet.

The custom ensemble was designed by former British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, who accompanied Williams on the blue carpet. The fitted dress featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and a long skirt inlaid with a shimmering sheer abstract panel that incorporated fine metallic threads. A long, light blue cape, crafted in Moncler’s signature puffer style, completed the look, elegantly worn around Williams` wrists to complement the gown`s drapery.

Williams` stylish transformation included a super-chic golden bob haircut, fashioned in 1920s-style finger waves by stylist Angela Meadows. Her accessories were equally notable, featuring Fred Leighton angel wing earrings with diamond drops, along with a matching barrette, bracelet, and rings.

Williams herself remarked that she felt like a modern-day Cinderella.

Later, sharing with her followers online, she revealed, “The highlight of my night, obviously, was Rihanna. It`s no secret that I love her. She`s so gorgeous — literally like the most gorgeous. I`m obsessed with her.”

She also mentioned another memorable interaction: “And also, Pharrell telling me, `Stop caring what people say.`”
