San Jose Sharks: Celebrini, Ferraro, Mukhamadullin, and Warsofsky Contract Situations

NHL News

The San Jose Sharks are taking a measured approach to contract extensions for key figures this offseason. General Manager Mike Grier indicated openness to signing forward Macklin Celebrini to an extension, but stressed there is no immediate rush to finalize a deal. Celebrini, who becomes eligible for an extension on July 1st, expressed his willingness to explore all possibilities and his commitment to the team.

While Celebrini is in line for a significant payday, with speculation pointing towards a deal in the three-to-five-year range rather than a longer-term commitment, the Sharks are not prioritizing an immediate agreement. Grier has yet to speak with Celebrini’s agent, and with ample time available, a swift resolution is not expected.

Regarding other pending free agents, defenseman Mario Ferraro is anticipated to test the free agency market, though Grier has not entirely closed the door on his potential return. Ferraro has expressed a preference for a longer-term contract, but his immediate focus is on playing, regardless of the deal’s duration.

The Sharks also aim to retain pending restricted free agent Shakir Mukhamadullin, with Grier reiterating the team’s belief in his potential. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky is entering the final year of his contract, and he remains focused on the upcoming season, keeping discussions about his extension private with Grier. Warsofsky conveyed his strong desire to remain with the organization and lead the team back to the playoffs, acknowledging the passion of the fanbase.
