Roy Keane criticized Jordan Pickford after his mix-up with Marc Guehi at 0-0
Pickford came flying out to the edge of his box and distracted Guehi
Roy Keane criticized England`s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his miscommunication with defender Marc Guehi, which nearly led to a goal for Latvia.
In the 2026 World Cup qualifier, England defeated Latvia 3-0.
At 0-0 in the 18th minute, a mistake by Pickford and Guehi almost resulted in a Latvian goal.
Latvian striker Vladislavs Gutkovskis broke through on goal, bypassing Guehi.
Pickford rushed out of the goal to intercept the ball but interfered with Guehi, causing confusion.
The ball went between them, and Gutkovskis had a chance to score into an empty net.
However, Gutkovskis missed, hitting the side netting.
During halftime, Keane criticized Pickford`s actions.
Speaking on ITV, Keane stated: “England played poorly. Goalkeepers sometimes get bored.
But Pickford comes out, and you want to tell him, `Mind your own business, let the defender handle it.` I would be looking at Pickford.”
Ian Wright agreed with Keane, saying Pickford should have “trusted” Guehi.
Despite Keane`s criticism, it was a significant night for Pickford as he equaled Joe Hart and David Seaman with 75 caps for England.
Now, only Peter Shilton has more caps for England than Pickford.
Keane also commented that England`s overall performance was not impressive.
The Manchester United legend added: “If it were a school report, it would be a `C+`.
It`s good for the manager to start with two wins. But the final product wasn`t great.
There`s more to come from this team. The game was just okay.”
The Irish legend also made a joke about Arsenal at halftime.
He praised Myles Lewis-Skelly for winning the free-kick from which Reece James scored.
Keane said: “Lewis-Skelly… he`s obviously learned that well at Arsenal over the years. It`s 50-50.”
