Football icon Roy Keane has earned praise as a true gentleman after making a hospital visit to a devoted fan battling dementia.
The former Manchester United captain agreed to meet 77-year-old Pat O’Sullivan, who is unwell, following a request from his family broadcast on the radio.
Pat, who considers Roy a “total legend,” was moved to tears during their meeting.
Keane, 53, who is originally from Ireland, spent 35 minutes at Mercy hospital in Cork, his hometown, with Pat, Pat`s wife Catherine, and their sons Derek, 44, and Rob, 41.
Rob expressed his gratitude, saying, “It was amazing of Roy to do this.”
“My dad was overjoyed to meet him.”
Keane and Pat have a connection as they both grew up in Cork, and they once shared a drink at a local pub.
Rob recounted, “My dad always talks about his friend Roy Keane.”
“He was so happy to see him that he cried with joy twice.”
“Roy put his arm around him and shared some jokes. He absolutely loved it.”
