Inter is reportedly keen on securing a contract extension for defender Carlos Augusto, but the player appears to be in no rush to commit, expressing discontent with his current role at the club. His limited playing time, largely due to Federico Dimarco’s impressive form, has prompted his agent to explore potential moves to other Serie A sides, including Atalanta, Juventus, and notably, Roma.
Giuseppe Riso, Augusto’s representative, also manages several prominent figures at Roma, such as Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante, both of whom are nearing contract renewals. This connection could potentially facilitate discussions with the capital club.
Carlos Augusto is seeking a more prominent role and consistent starts, an opportunity that Roma and Atalanta could potentially offer him. However, Inter’s valuation of approximately €25 million for the Brazilian full-back might pose a challenge to any prospective transfer. He originally joined the Nerazzurri from Monza for around €13 million, leveraging his contractual situation at the time. Despite often being a secondary option in various positions, he has accumulated a respectable 133 appearances, scoring 6 goals and providing 12 assists throughout his career.
Should the versatile defender indeed push for an exit, and Roma intensify their efforts to sign him, reports suggest he could even become a component in negotiations for Manu Koné. Meanwhile, Roma is looking to strengthen its defense by potentially parting ways with Zeki Celik, whose contract demands are deemed too high, and moving Wesley to the right-wing.
From a broader perspective, while Carlos Augusto may not possess the same profile as Dimarco, he demonstrated significant ability during his time at Monza and has shown flashes of quality at San Siro. His potential departure could create an appealing opportunity for clubs, especially those utilizing a 3-5-2 formation, to acquire a talented player. For Inter, such a sale could also represent a considerable profit on a player who isn’t considered an indispensable starter.
