Financial constraints may compel AS Roma to offload a key player by the end of June. However, talented goalkeeper Mile Svilar, despite attracting significant interest and having joined the club on a free transfer years ago, remains a low priority for sale, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Svilar has demonstrated exceptional form, delivering impressive statistics even amidst recent defensive struggles. He has achieved 13 clean sheets in 31 Serie A appearances and an additional 3 in the UEFA Europa League. His save percentage is remarkable, stopping 92 out of 116 shots, significantly exceeding the average in Europe’s top five leagues.
Svilar holds a deep affection for Roma, crediting the club for rejuvenating his career after he had been marginalized as a backup at Benfica. His commitment runs deep; he never seriously contemplated leaving, even during a period of uncertainty regarding his contract renewal. His current deal now extends until 2030.
The Giallorossi management would only entertain the idea of parting with the 2024/2025 Serie A’s top goalkeeper if an exceptionally large offer were to materialize, notwithstanding the clear financial advantages such a sale would bring. The club is reportedly more inclined to consider bids for Evan N’Dicka, another player acquired on a free transfer, and Manu Koné, valued at €18 million.
Our Take on Roma and Svilar
It’s somewhat peculiar that major clubs in need of a new shot-stopper, including giants like Juventus and Inter, have not yet been strongly linked with Svilar. This could indicate an exceptionally high asking price, potentially out of reach for Italian clubs. Nevertheless, the transfer market is renowned for its unexpected turns.
