Panathinaikos’ roster continues to see changes in its frontcourt. Following Omer Yurtseven’s exit, the Greek club announced on Tuesday the departure of Richaun Holmes. Holmes, who joined Athens this summer from the NBA, has mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the team. This decision comes amidst reported tensions between the player and head coach Ergin Ataman.
Coach Ataman had publicly criticized Holmes after a league defeat, stating that the American big man was “sleeping on the court and not producing anything on pick and roll.” Despite averaging 7.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in the Euroleague, Holmes failed to solidify his position with the Greens. The return of Mathias Lessort may also have contributed to his departure.
Replacement Already Identified
A replacement has already been identified to fill the void. According to reports, Panathinaikos is expected to recall Ioannis Koulezgolou, who was previously on loan at Maroussi.
