On April 17th, a remarkable event took place: 14-year-old Igor Willian, nicknamed ‘Igor Negao’, took to the court for the game against Basket Osasco. The 1.80m tall youngster played for 12 minutes, scoring 7 points (2/2 field goals including one three-pointer, and 2/2 free throws). He also contributed with a rebound, an assist, and a steal, making him the youngest player to score in the Brazilian NBB.
“I fell in love with basketball playing in the streets and at school, and I hope to continue to progress within this club,” he told Basketball Sphere. Explaining the key to his early success, he stated, “I think it’s thanks to intensive training; I train every day on the court and physically.” His ambitions are clear: “I want to become a star in the United States.”
