Premier League officials have announced the removal of a lesser-known broadcasting regulation set to take effect from the upcoming season.
Previously, restrictions were in place preventing youth-team fixtures from being televised concurrently with senior top-flight matches.
Reports indicate that this broadcast limitation will be lifted for the 2025/26 campaign.
As a result, Under-21 games in Premier League 2 can now be live-streamed, even if they coincide with senior league games aired on major channels like Sky Sports or TNT Sports.
Official club channels are expected to spearhead the broadcasting of these matches.
However, there are suggestions that broadcast rights could be marketed for a potential TV deal in future years, should viewership figures prove substantial.
This regulatory change represents a significant positive step for football supporters across the country, particularly benefiting fans interested in following youth development, including those of Manchester United.
Fans have previously expressed dissatisfaction regarding MUTV`s limited live coverage of youth team games. Last season, only a fraction of the Under-21 matches were shown live, with an even smaller number being Premier League 2 fixtures. It has been reported that the club`s in-house channel was affected by recent staffing reductions.
Looking ahead, Premier League fans will still encounter the traditional 3pm broadcast blackout for senior matches next season, a rule designed to protect matchday attendances. Nevertheless, speculation suggests this long-standing measure could potentially be abolished upon the expiration of the current television rights agreement at the close of the 2028/29 season.
