After 10 `amazing years` together, Jasmine Paolini and coach Renzo Furlan are separating. World No. 6 Paolini announced on social media that she is no longer working with Furlan, the 2024 WTA Coach of the Year.
Paolini wrote on Instagram about Furlan, a former ATP World No. 19, whom she began working with in 2015, that he has been very important to her growth as a player and person. She stated that everything she learned from him will stay with her and guide her in the future, and that he will always be important in her life.
Furlan became Paolini`s full-time coach in 2020 after his role as president of the Serbian tennis federation ended. The 54-year-old was voted the best coach on the Hologic WTA Tour last year for helping Paolini. She started the season ranked outside the Top 30 but reached a career-high World No. 4 ranking and two Grand Slam singles finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Paolini also won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics with Sara Errani, qualified for the WTA Finals for the first time in both singles and doubles, and helped Italy win their first Billie Jean King Cup title in over ten years in November.
Paolini`s announcement comes just days after she reached the semifinals of the WTA 1000-level Miami Open, where she lost to eventual champion and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Miami was the first time this year that the 29-year-old won more than two matches at a tournament, and her singles record is 12-6 in 2025 so far.
Paolini added that she is truly grateful for the time, energy, and sacrifices Furlan made for her, often away from his home and family. She has much respect and appreciation for his professionalism, passion, and the values he has given her over the years.
