Awoniyi suffered serious abdominal injuries after colliding with a goalpost during his team`s 2-2 draw against Leicester City.

Surgeons decided to put Awoniyi in an induced coma to stabilize his condition, helping to limit movement and control his heart rate.

However, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is reportedly furious that the injured striker was permitted to continue playing by the club`s medical team and coaches.

SunSport reports that the Greek owner has ordered a thorough internal investigation into the circumstances leading to this controversial decision.

Marinakis was so angered by Awoniyi`s situation that he went onto the pitch at the end of the match to question manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

He is now seeking answers before determining if further steps are necessary.

A strongly worded statement from Forest on Monday emphasized that the club will not tolerate players being put at risk.

The statement read: “Taiwo Awoniyi`s serious injury serves as a stark reminder of the physical dangers in football and underscores why a player`s health and well-being must always be the top priority.”

“This is not merely club policy; it is the deeply held belief of our owner.”

The statement also appeared to criticize the club`s medical staff, concluding: “There was unanimous frustration among us that the medical team should never have allowed the player to continue.”
