Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has had his suspension for a red card in the recent Club World Cup match against Flamengo increased.
The striker was sent off for a reckless tackle during Chelsea`s 3-1 defeat to the Brazilian side on Friday.
Initially, the ban was set for just one game, meaning Jackson would only miss the upcoming final group stage match against ES Tunis.
However, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has now extended the ban to two matches.
This escalated punishment means Jackson will also be unavailable for Chelsea`s potential last-16 tie, should they successfully progress from Group D.
The decision made by the committee to upgrade the suspension is final and cannot be appealed.
The incident leading to the red card occurred only four minutes after Jackson had entered the game as a substitute, with Chelsea already trailing 2-1 against Flamengo.
Adding to his disciplinary woes, the 24-year-old Senegalese international is already due to miss the first Premier League game of the upcoming season against Crystal Palace, stemming from a red card he received late in the previous campaign against Newcastle.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca commented on Jackson`s conduct, acknowledging that the red card incidents were not beneficial for the team but stated that these issues do not influence his future standing or competition with new signing Liam Delap.
Jackson himself took to Instagram after the Flamengo game to issue an apology. He expressed frustration with himself and described the tackle as an unintentional “football moment” that went wrong, accepting full responsibility for his actions.>
