NHL Trades: Simon Nemec, William Eklund, and Jordan Kyrou

NHL News

New Jersey Devils Send Simon Nemec to the Calgary Flames

Tuesday is a popular day for trades as the last two have seen massive trades in the NHL.

To begin Tuesday afternoon, the New Jersey Devils have sent defenseman Simon Nemec and forward Maxim Tsyplakov to the Calgary Flames.

The New Jersey Devils have traded defenseman Simon Nemec to the Calgary Flames.

NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames Want to Add Young NHL Players

The Flames as part of the return for these two players have given the Devils a 2026 second-round (35th overall) pick that was previously sent by the New York Rangers to Calgary at the trade deadline, a 2027 first round draft pick (Flames acquired from Vegas Golden Knights), a 2028 1st round draft pick (acquired from the Colorado Avalanche), both picks top 10 protected, and Etienne Morin.

The Flames are getting the 2nd overall pick from the 2022 NHL Draft, who can play top-four minutes on the right side. He can play on the first power play and has shown the ability to lead the offence from the backend with Team Slovakia at the Olympics.

Eric Francis: Craig Conroy did not have to use any of the Flames’ own first-round picks to acquire a high-quality defenseman like Nemec.

NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, and the Buffalo Sabres

William Eklund to the Ottawa Senators

It wasn’t long after the Simon Nemec trade happened that the Ottawa Senators sent the 9th overall pick from the 2026 NHL Draft to the San Jose Sharks for William Eklund, Kasper Halttunen, and Brandon Svoboda.

The Ottawa Senators Will be Looking to Add, After Dealing Brady Tkachuk for Futures

GM Steve Staios said on Monday that his phone was ringing off the hook, and it literally did during his press conference, about the 9th and 25th overall picks. He wanted to improve the team, and the trade of Brady Tkachuk on Sunday was going to benefit the team in the long term.

There was an expectation that the Senators would not take a player with the 9th overall selection and would instead use it on the sure thing. They had the ammunition and assets to acquire an NHL-ready player for their timeline, and that’s exactly what they did with Eklund.

NHL Rumors: Mavrik Bourque, Jason Robertson, Mason McTavish, and the Buffalo Sabres

Jordan Kyrou to Washington

The Jordan Kyrou saga in St. Louis is over. Kyrou had been the subject of trade rumors for a couple of seasons now, and the Blues finally traded him to the Washington Capitals for the 16th overall pick, Connor McMichael, and Milton Gastrin.

NHL Rumors: Werenski, Tuch, Byram, Hellebuyck, Larkin, Knies and Robertson

The Capitals get a top-six scoring winger they have been looking for since the trade deadline. Kyrou waived his no-trade clause to go to the Capitals.
