Nashville Predators: Coach’s Future and Player’s Accountability
Nashville Predators head coach Andrew Brunette expressed confidence in his return for the upcoming season, irrespective of the new General Manager. Meanwhile, forward Jonathan Marchessault took accountability for his subpar performance this year, acknowledging that his “poor headspace” and ineffective play did not benefit the team. He admitted that his current level of play wouldn’t carry any team to the playoffs and that he needs to look in the mirror, recognizing he didn’t make a significant difference for the Predators.
St. Louis Blues: Offseason Speculation and Draft Aspirations
The St. Louis Blues are expected to be a focal point of offseason trade rumors, though not all speculation may lead to player movement. General Manager Doug Armstrong emphasized the high value placed on forward Robert Thomas, stating that the cost to acquire a player of his caliber is substantial and that he values Thomas more than any other GM in the league. This suggests Thomas is unlikely to be traded unless an overwhelmingly compelling offer arises.
With Alexander Steen taking over as GM, numerous discussions are anticipated. Defenseman Colton Parayko and goaltender Jordan Binnington were also subjects of trade rumors, with Parayko reportedly rejecting a move to the Buffalo Sabres. Armstrong’s comments on the necessity of having two strong goaltenders indicate Binnington is likely to remain with the team. Forward Jordan Kyrou, who possesses a full no-trade clause, has expressed his desire to stay in St. Louis. Pending restricted free agent Dylan Holloway also wants to remain with the Blues, and he is optimistic about reaching an agreement.
The Blues hold significant draft capital, including the No. 11 pick, the No. 15 pick (via Detroit), and the No. 31 pick (via Colorado). Armstrong indicated a willingness to move up in the draft by utilizing picks, prospects, or current players, provided a willing trade partner is found.

Nashville Predators: Coach’s Confidence and Player’s Self-Reflection
Nashville Predators head coach Andrew Brunette is optimistic about his return next season, regardless of the incoming General Manager. Predators forward Jonathan Marchessault admitted to not being a positive presence this year and being in a poor “head space,” taking ownership of how his play did not help the Predators. He stated, “But I’m aware that if I play the way I played this year, I’m not going to bring any team to the playoffs. You’ve got to look at yourself in the mirror. There are guys that made a difference this year, and there are guys that didn’t make a difference. I didn’t make a difference this year.”
St. Louis Blues: Offseason Rumors and Draft Strategy
There are bound to be some St. Louis Blues players in the rumor mill again this offseason, but they may not necessarily be on the move; instead, the team might look to move up in the draft. St. Louis Blues forward Robert Thomas was in the rumor mill before the trade deadline. Could these rumors pick up again this offseason, or will they hold onto him? General Manager Doug Armstrong commented, “Some of these trade talks… are a little bit of fabrication. They start out, and all of a sudden they get legs, and they go, and they go, and they go, and they never stop. The cost of acquiring someone of Robert Thomas’ talent is extremely high. I don’t think anyone values Robert Thomas more in the NHL than Doug Armstrong values Robert Thomas in the NHL. So, if he was available, the reason he’s here is because I value him higher than anyone else.”
Alexander Steen is taking over from Rutherford as GM and has stated that many conversations will need to take place. Defenseman Colton Parayko and goaltender Jordan Binnington were also in the rumor mill, with Parayko reportedly nixing a trade to the Buffalo Sabres. Binnington has a 14-team no-trade clause, and Armstrong’s remarks about needing two good goaltenders suggest Binnington is likely to stay. Forward Jordan Kyrou has a full no-trade clause and has expressed his desire to remain with the team. Forward Dylan Holloway is a pending RFA and wants to stay in St. Louis long-term, expressing confidence that a deal will be reached.
Before the draft lottery, the Blues hold the No. 11 pick, No. 15 (from Detroit), and No. 31 (from Colorado). Armstrong on the idea of trading up in the draft: “Yes, we would — we can use the picks, we can use prospects, we can use players. We’ll give it our best chance. But you also have to have someone that wants to move out of that pick, and that’s where the fly in the ointment sometimes comes in.”
