The Toronto Maple Leafs are entering the second phase of their coaching search, with in-person interviews commencing this week. Reports suggest they have narrowed their focus to approximately five candidates, including Joe Pavelski and Patrick Roy. While Jay Woodcroft’s status remains unconfirmed, he is believed to still be in consideration.
Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens are reportedly exploring a trade for forward Brendan Gallagher, with the Vancouver Canucks showing some interest. Gallagher has one year remaining on his contract, carrying a $6.5 million cap hit but a $4 million salary. His agent confirmed the Canucks’ interest, noting it’s a matter of whether the deal can be finalized.
Regarding the Minnesota Wild, Charlie Stramel is anticipated to receive a significant look in training camp if not traded. Despite an ankle injury that sidelined him for his pro games, he’s viewed as a potential middle-six player rather than a No. 1 center. If the Wild pursue a top-line center, potential trade packages might involve players like Danil Yurov, Stramel, a first-round pick, and possibly other assets. The team is also looking to inject more youth and speed into their bottom six. Coach Jon Hynes is expected to receive a contract extension, and restricted free agent Bobby Brink is likely to sign a bridge deal.
