According to Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, there are updates on the general manager searches for the Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and New Jersey Devils.
Nashville Predators
The Predators are leaning towards hiring an external candidate for their General Manager position. Tom Fitzgerald has been added to their list of contenders, and Jeff Kealty, an internal assistant GM, also reportedly had a strong in-person interview. While Kealty performed well, the team seems set on an outside hire. Friedman also speculates that the Predators might consider Kevyn Adams or Brad Treliving due to their recent experience in similar roles. Good feedback was received on Bill Scott’s interview. It was also clarified that Jamie Langenbrunner did not interview for the position, though Scott White did speak with the team, but it’s uncertain if it was an in-person meeting.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs are expected to conduct several interviews this week. Their search is currently focused on identifying a single individual, but the final front office structure is still undetermined. It’s possible that more than one candidate interviewed could end up in their front office. The team may also seek permission to speak with more individuals from the Florida Panthers organization, potentially including Gregory Campbell. Sunny Mehta has been a name previously discussed in relation to the Leafs.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils will commence their GM search this week. Sunny Mehta and John Chayka are confirmed candidates, with Jamie Langenbrunner also being a name of interest. The Devils will be conducting their search internally, without the use of a search firm.
