Maycee Barber Reveals Frightening Aftermath and Memory Loss Following Brutal Defeat by Alexa Grasso at UFC Seattle

MMA News

Maycee Barber has spoken out for the first time about the serious consequences of her recent loss to Alexa Grasso at UFC Seattle. Last Saturday at the Climate Pledge Arena, a highly anticipated rematch between Barber and former flyweight champion Alexa Grasso served as the co-main event.

Barely into the opening round, Grasso landed a powerful left hand that sent Barber to the canvas. The Mexican star immediately followed up with further strikes and then secured a rear-naked choke. However, the damage was already done, prompting referee Mike Beltran to quickly step in and stop the fight. Following the stoppage, Barber briefly clung to the referee before collapsing back onto the canvas, remaining motionless for several tense moments. Eventually, she regained enough composure to sit up and exit the cage on her own, though it was later revealed that the 27-year-old Colorado native was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation.

Maycee Barber appears to be in better spirits and has shared an update on her condition. On Sunday evening, Maycee Barber took to social media to reflect on her second defeat by Alexa Grasso and the unsettling aftermath of the bout. She disclosed that she is experiencing partial memory loss from that night, and also displayed visible bruising sustained during the fight.

Barber stated: “Well, this isn’t the post or video I wanted to be making today. But I wanted to come on here and say thank you to the UFC and thank you to Alexa for the opportunity. I wanted to go out there and get my opportunity for a rematch, to dominate and get the win back, but unfortunately, it wasn’t my night. I got caught, and Alexa did an amazing thing. She’s a phenomenal fighter. I don’t really remember a whole lot. All I know is every time I go on social media, I look like I’m dead, and that’s not a very fun thing to see. So I’ve been trying to stay off social media, but I also wanted to come on here and tell you guys that I am okay.”

Prior to this setback, Barber had been on an impressive seven-fight winning streak, including dominant victories over Karine Silva, Amanda Ribas, and Katlyn Cerminara. Her UFC record now stands at 10-3, with an overall professional record of 15-3.
