Marius Grigonis is set to make a return to Zalgiris Kaunas. Despite having another year left on his contract with Panathinaikos, the Greek club did not include him in their plans for the upcoming season.
Grigonis, who honed his skills at the Žalgiris youth academy, has previously played for several Spanish teams, as well as Alba Berlin. He made his EuroLeague debut with the Lithuanian club during the 2018-2019 season. In his final season in Kaunas, 2020-21, Grigonis averaged 13.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in the EuroLeague, with an efficiency rating of 13.7.
“When the season starts, we’ll be able to fully appreciate this feeling, but it’s my home. I know everyone here, many of my former teammates are still here, and I see that new faces have joined us. We’ll see how it goes. It’s a mix of emotions. We have a long and rich history with Žalgiris. I’ve stayed in touch with Paulius Jankunas – we had lunch together, and everything unfolded in a way that I believe will be beneficial for everyone, both for Panathinaikos and for Žalgiris. Everything lined up perfectly this year, and I think coming here is the right decision,” Grigonis stated.
