Manchester United Goalkeeper André Onana’s Lamborghini Urus Seized by Police Due to No Insurance

Football News

Manchester United`s number one goalkeeper, André Onana, saw his £350,000 Lamborghini Urus impounded by police after it was discovered to be uninsured.

The 29-year-old player, who has faced criticism for several on-field errors this season, must now promptly secure insurance for the luxury vehicle. If coverage is not arranged swiftly, the expensive car could be crushed.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Hale Barns, Greater Manchester, when police officers stopped the vehicle while one of Onana`s friends was driving it. An Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera system flagged the car as being without valid insurance.

Following the stop, the Lamborghini was loaded onto a recovery transporter and taken to a police pound. The Cameroon international has a period of 14 days to provide evidence of his ownership and demonstrate that the vehicle is properly insured. Should he fail to do so within this timeframe, the car is at risk of being sold at auction or destroyed.

According to a source, “Onana has made a few errors this season and insuring his car properly seems to be the latest one.”

Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in 2023 in a £50 million deal and has since made close to 100 appearances for the club, securing an FA Cup win in his debut season.

Beyond his on-field performances, which have sometimes drawn attention for mistakes, Onana has also faced personal challenges. In March, his wife Melanie, 35, was reportedly robbed of a £62,000 Hermes handbag and a Rolex watch after leaving an upscale Italian restaurant in Cheshire. A man is scheduled to stand trial later this year in connection with that robbery.

André Onana is not the only Manchester United player to have had a car impounded. In 2021, former midfielder Paul Pogba`s £300,000 Rolls-Royce Wraith was seized because it was registered in Monaco. Pogba received points on his licence, a fine, and costs, and subsequently accumulated thousands of pounds in storage fees for leaving the car at the pound for several months.

Generally, police officers are legally permitted to seize a vehicle if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the driver is uninsured or is operating the vehicle contrary to the conditions of their driving licence.
