Manchester United Executive Reportedly Discusses Shock Hojlund-Osimhen Swap in Naples

Football News

Reports indicate that an executive from Manchester United recently travelled to Naples earlier this week. The purpose of the visit was reportedly to discuss a potential player exchange deal that could involve forward Rasmus Hojlund.

The 2024-25 season is described as having been challenging for the Red Devils, both in the Premier League and in European competitions.

According to the report, they finished the league campaign in 15th position, accumulating only 42 points.

Furthermore, the club reportedly lost the Europa League final 1-0 against Tottenham last week, which means they will miss out on European football next season.

In the wake of this difficult season, club officials are now said to be considering offloading some players whose performances did not meet expectations.

It is believed that Hojlund is one of the players potentially facing an exit.

The 22-year-old forward reportedly scored just 10 goals in 52 appearances over the season.

The report suggests that head coach Ruben Amorim was disappointed by Hojlund`s performance and may therefore approve his departure.

Italian outlet Il Napolista has claimed that Hojlund could be included in a swap deal to bring Victor Osimhen to Old Trafford.

Manchester United`s transfer chief, Matt Hargreaves, allegedly flew to Naples recently specifically to engage in talks with Napoli executives about this potential transfer.

The Serie A club is reportedly open to the idea of signing Hojlund.

They are also said to be prepared to let Osimhen leave, who is claimed to have spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Galatasaray.

However, if United pushes to sign the striker, the deal would likely require them to send Hojlund to Napoli plus an additional £33.7 million.

Hojlund joined the Red Devils from Atalanta in a £72 million transfer two years ago. However, his value has reportedly dropped significantly since then, attributed to his underwhelming form.

The report mentions that if Hojlund were to move to Napoli, he would link up with former United player Scott McTominay, who is said to have adapted well to life in Naples since his reported departure from Old Trafford last summer.

Conversely, in Osimhen, United would be acquiring a striker who reportedly scored 36 goals and provided eight assists in 40 appearances this season.

Manchester United is reported to have held an interest in the Nigerian international for the past three years.
