Liberty Global, the majority owner of the all-electric Formula E racing championship and a major player in media, telecommunications, and entertainment, has submitted a bid for the upcoming London NBA Europe league franchise. The bid was reportedly made before the NBA’s deadline last week.
Sources suggest that the US-based company is exploring a potential partnership with MSP Sports Capital or Jahm Najafi, a co-founder of MSP. This previously undisclosed interest from Liberty Global highlights the significant scope of the NBA’s European expansion initiative, which is being managed by investment banks like JP Morgan and The Raine Group.
The pursuit of an NBA Europe franchise in the UK, with Manchester also being considered, is notable given that the country is not currently part of the EuroLeague basketball competition.
