Laurent Foirest Appointed Sporting Director at Quimper

Sports News

Laurent Foirest has returned to the Breton club, Quimper, to assume the position of Sporting Director. Foirest previously coached Quimper from 2015, leading them to promotion to Pro B two years later, before a relegation to Nationale 1 in 2023. Following his tenure in Quimper, he briefly managed the struggling Métropolitans 92, where he was dismissed in November 2023.

“Upon his appointment, his primary mission will be to define the technical leadership for the first team, by identifying the coach who will lead the sporting project for the next season. In close collaboration with this individual, he will also be responsible for building the upcoming roster, in a context marked by uncertainties regarding the division in which the club will compete,” stated President Maxime Laizé in a press release.

With six games remaining in the Elite 2 season, Quimper currently sits in 19th place out of 20 teams, with two fewer wins than Evreux (9 wins compared to 11).

Laurent Foirest Returns to Quimper as Sporting Director

Laurent Foirest is making a comeback to Quimper, this time in the capacity of Sporting Director. He previously served as the head coach of the Breton basketball club, guiding them to a promotion to Pro B in 2017 after taking the helm in 2015. However, the team was relegated back to Nationale 1 in 2023. His subsequent role with Métropolitans 92, a team facing significant difficulties, ended prematurely with his dismissal in November 2023.

Club President Maxime Laizé outlined Foirest’s immediate responsibilities: “From the moment he takes office, his priority will be to establish the technical staff for the first team, by selecting the coach who will spearhead the sporting project for the upcoming season. Working closely with the new coach, he will also be tasked with assembling the squad for the next season, in an environment where the club’s league participation remains uncertain.”

As the Elite 2 season approaches its conclusion with only six games left, Quimper is currently positioned 19th out of 20 teams. They have accumulated two fewer victories than Evreux, who have secured 11 wins so far.
