Reports indicate that Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé recently lost up to five kilograms due to an illness he suffered from over the past week.
The 26-year-old player was admitted to the hospital with acute gastroenteritis on the day of Real Madrid`s initial Club World Cup match against Al-Hilal, where he received treatment.
After being discharged and returning to the team hotel, he was required to isolate from his teammates to prevent spreading the infection.
Mbappé resumed individual training on Monday and is now working towards reintegrating into the squad, but the illness has clearly had a significant impact on him.
Spanish news outlet Marca specifically reported that he lost between four and five kilograms as a result of the virus.
Following this news, fans have expressed concern for the player`s well-being on social media. One commenter wrote, “He really needs to rest,” while another remarked, “So obvious, let’s just give him time to recover fully.”
It is believed that Mbappé may have contracted the virus in Madrid before the team`s flight to the United States earlier this month. He reportedly began feeling unwell after participating in the club`s second training session held in Miami.
Mbappé is currently hoping to regain full fitness in time to participate in Real Madrid`s upcoming final Club World Cup group stage match, scheduled against RB Salzburg for Thursday.
Real Madrid, known as “Los Blancos,” currently sits atop Group H with four points accumulated from their first two games.
They played to a 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal in their opening fixture, followed by a 3-1 victory over Mexican side Pachuca on Sunday. Mbappé was absent from both of these matches due to his illness.
Speaking over the weekend, Real Madrid`s new manager, Xabi Alonso, provided an update on the forward`s condition: “I`m looking forward to having him back, but we have to see how he progresses day by day. We have to wait. Now we`re going back to Florida and we`ll see how he is. We`re waiting for him.”
