Seattle Kraken’s Interest in Bobby McMann
The Seattle Kraken are reportedly keen on retaining forward Bobby McMann, who has made a significant impact since joining the team at the trade deadline. McMann has impressed with a stellar offensive output, recording seven goals and four assists in just eight games for the Kraken. While previous negotiations between McMann and his former team, the Maple Leafs, reportedly never progressed significantly, the Kraken have already expressed their strong interest in securing him for the long term, recognizing his excellent fit with the team.
Vancouver Canucks’ Potential UFA Strategy
The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly considering an unconventional strategy to improve team culture and provide mentorship for younger players: offering lucrative, short-term contracts to specific unrestricted free agents (UFAs). The proposal suggests enticing hardworking veterans with significantly inflated two-year salaries, potentially including limited no-trade clauses. For instance, defensemen like Jacob Trouba, Connor Murphy, or Darren Raddysh could see offers in the $8-10 million AAV range, while forwards such as Michael McCarron, Colton Sissons, or Beck Malenstyn might be offered $3.5-4 million AAV – essentially doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling their current salaries. The aim is to secure short-term commitment from these players, preventing them from signing longer-term deals elsewhere. The long-term plan involves potentially trading these players closer to the 2028 or 2029 deadline, though this would require the Canucks to retain 50% of their salaries at that point.
Vancouver Canucks Goaltending Situation
In other Canucks news, the team might consider carrying three goaltenders next season to avoid losing prospect Nikita Tolopilo to waivers. This consideration is particularly relevant given that current goalies Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen both possess full no-move clauses, limiting the team’s flexibility in managing their roster spots.
