Juventus is actively pursuing free-agent acquisitions, with Lorenzo Pellegrini of Roma recently joining their list of targets. However, their interest in Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth appears to be encountering difficulties, as the competition for his signature is proving more intense than initially expected.
The Turin giants are reportedly in talks with the camp of the influential Roma midfielder. Pellegrini would likely need to accept a significant pay cut to extend his stay with his current club, a scenario Juventus could potentially leverage by offering more competitive wages. He has been enjoying a solid season, contributing 5 goals and 3 assists in 27 appearances.
While discussions for Pellegrini are still nascent, Juventus has reportedly submitted its initial written offer for Senesi. The central defender is expected to leave Bournemouth as a free agent, but he has attracted interest from multiple clubs and is reportedly seeking annual wages of €5 million. Juventus could meet this demand, though it would require careful consideration of their financial structure and wage bill.
Sources indicate that continuous communication is ongoing between the parties, but Juventus’s offer for Senesi is currently less competitive than those presented by Premier League clubs. Tottenham and Aston Villa are reportedly leading the pursuit for the defender at this time.
Our Take
Our perspective suggests that Pellegrini, despite some criticism and perhaps an overly central role at Roma (partially due to injuries), could serve as a valuable backup attacking midfielder at this point in his career. Regarding Senesi, Juventus must determine the true priority of this signing. If they view him as a definite improvement over options like Lloyd Kelly, then making an additional financial effort could be justified.
