Jon Jones has recently caused a stir among fans with conflicting statements about his future in the UFC. While he initially suggested that his fighting career might be over, the door appears to remain ajar for a potential return to the Octagon.
Jones officially announced his retirement in 2025, relinquishing his heavyweight title rather than facing then-interim champion Tom Aspinall.
However, just weeks after his retirement, Jones re-entered the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) testing pool shortly after the UFC announced its White House Card. He and Alex Pereira had publicly exchanged challenges on multiple occasions, fueling speculation of a highly anticipated superfight between “Bones” and “Poatan” scheduled for June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House.
Despite these expectations, Jones’ name was notably absent when the UFC Freedom 250 bout was officially announced.
UFC CEO Dana White attributed Jones’ retirement to severe arthritis and stated the promotion had no plans to include him on the June 14 card. In contrast, Jones alleged he was in negotiations with UFC management but felt he was offered an unfavorable deal. He also expressed his desire for the promotion to release him if they believed he had no more to contribute.
In a recent interview with Red Corner MMA, Jones reiterated his belief that his fighting days are behind him:
“My gloves are hung up. I am chilling these days. You got business, Jon Jones. No more fighting Jon Jones.”
Jon Jones Refuses to Shut Door on UFC Return
In a separate conversation with The Schmo, Jon Jones revealed he has been in discussions with UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell regarding a potential comeback. Jones recently underwent stem cell treatment for hip pain and is currently focused on coaching Gable Steveson, who is rumored to be close to signing with the UFC.
“We had that conversation tonight. I took a stem cell right before the White House card was curated. I’m starting to feel the effects. I feel really good physically. Let’s not put any pressure on anything. I’m gonna focus on coaching Gable right now, but who knows what the future holds.”
