Jon Jones, the renowned fighter, has voiced his intention to face his long-time rival Daniel Cormier once again, emphasizing his desire for a victory that is undeniably “fair and square.” The animosity between the two has been a persistent theme for years, and it appears unlikely that either will seek to reconcile their differences.
Even Jones himself acknowledges that Cormier has no inclination towards a friendly resolution. Currently serving as opposing coaches on ALF Global, their rivalry was evident in a prior incident where Cormier, after a scuffle, wanted to leave the set for his own security. However, Jones persuaded him to stay and even offered praise for Cormier’s achievements, both personally and professionally.
Despite this moment of apparent camaraderie, Cormier has not reciprocated any goodwill towards Jones. In a recent interview with ALF Global, Jones commented on their ongoing dynamic:
“I think this is just going to be the way that it is for the rest of our lives. He [DC] considers himself to be my rival, but really he’s just a hater.”
Jones, who self-describes as a “one-man winning machine,” has a history with Cormier that has been frequently overshadowed by controversy. While Jones secured victories in their two previous encounters, their second fight at UFC 214 was later invalidated to a no-contest due to Jones’ positive test for the anabolic steroid Turinabol. This led to him being stripped of the light heavyweight championship, which was subsequently returned to Cormier.
Following this event, Cormier has consistently challenged Jones’ legacy, labeling him a cheat due to his failed drug tests. In response, Jones has reiterated his desire to defeat Cormier again, this time unequivocally proving his clean capabilities:
“I wanna beat Daniel again fair and square. It’s me in Thailand by myself with my business partner versus Daniel and his whole team. I’m a one-man winning machine.”
Jon Jones Wants to Beat Daniel Cormier One More Time “Fair and Square”
Jon Jones has expressed a strong desire to face his arch-rival Daniel Cormier again, aiming for a definitive victory that he considers “fair and square.” The prolonged and often contentious history between the two fighters suggests that any reconciliation is highly improbable.
Jones himself believes that Cormier will likely maintain his adversarial stance. While currently participating as rival coaches on ALF Global, a previous altercation saw Cormier express a desire to leave the set for safety reasons. Jones, however, managed to persuade him to remain and even acknowledged Cormier’s accomplishments as both a person and an athlete.
Despite this interaction, Cormier has not shown any signs of warming towards Jones. In a recent conversation with ALF Global, Jones shared his perspective on their relationship:
“I think this is just going to be the way that it is for the rest of our lives. He [DC] considers himself to be my rival, but really he’s just a hater.”
“Bones” has asserted his identity as a “one-man winning machine.”
The rivalry between Jones and Cormier has been consistently marked by controversy. Although Jones defeated Cormier twice, their second bout at UFC 214 was later declared a no-contest after Jones failed a drug test for Turinabol. Consequently, he was stripped of his light heavyweight title, which was reinstated to Cormier.
Since that incident, Cormier has repeatedly questioned Jones’ achievements, referring to him as a cheater due to his drug test failures. This has led Jones to publicly state his aspiration to defeat Cormier once more, thereby demonstrating his ability to win cleanly.
“I wanna beat Daniel again fair and square. It’s me in Thailand by myself with my business partner versus Daniel and his whole team. I’m a one-man winning machine.”
