UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has spoken openly about his intense dedication to winning, admitting that his focus might be excessive.
I truly believe I will never experience being a loser, someone who loses a fight. I am simply too fixated on winning. It`s probably even an unhealthy subject.
I`ve observed fighters lose a match and still smile, hugging their partners and saying things like, `Oh well, maybe better luck next time.` If I were ever to suffer a defeat, I would be completely devastated, consumed by anger and distress, and would likely fall into a state of depression.
This is simply part of my nature as a winner. I feel an absolute need to commit myself entirely to everything I do and perform at the highest possible standard. It`s about pushing my abilities to their absolute limit — or not doing it at all.
Jones articulated this viewpoint, emphasizing his inherent drive and the mental impact that a loss would have on him, contrasting it with the reactions of some other athletes.
