John Wall officially announced his retirement from the NBA, sharing a video on social media on Tuesday. Throughout his thirteen-season professional career, Wall dedicated ten years to the Washington Wizards.
ESPN`s research indicates that Wall holds a prominent place in the Wizards` franchise history, ranking among the top five in points, assists, steals, and successful three-point shots. He was a cornerstone during one of the Wizards` most successful periods this century, leading the team to the postseason in four out of five seasons between 2013 and 2017.
Wall was the No. 1 overall pick for Washington in the 2010 NBA draft, following a single collegiate season with the Kentucky Wildcats. He was notably part of head coach John Calipari`s inaugural recruiting class in 2009. The five-time NBA All-Star`s final on-court appearance came during the 2022-23 season, where he participated in 34 games for the Los Angeles Clippers.
Upon his retirement announcement, a wave of congratulatory messages and tributes flowed in for Wall. Among the most notable were messages from his former Wizards teammate Bradley Beal and fellow Kentucky Wildcats alumnus Karl-Anthony Towns.
