Arsenal recently hosted two former players at the Emirates stadium on Sunday, but it appears Sky Sports commentator Peter Drury did not recognize both of them.
The Gunners secured a 1-0 victory against Newcastle, a result that confirmed their spot in next season`s Champions League.
Former fan favorite Gilberto Silva was shown on Sky cameras watching the game from the stands.
The 48-year-old Brazilian midfielder played for Arsenal for six seasons between 2002 and 2008.
Drury provided a warm welcome for Gilberto during the commentary, noting his arrival at the club following a “stellar World Cup” 23 years ago.
However, he failed to mention former Arsenal centre-back Johan Djourou, who was seated directly next to Gilberto.
The 38-year-old Swiss defender spent a decade at Arsenal from 2004 to 2014.
Fans were quick to notice and point out on social media that Sky seemed to have overlooked Djourou during the segment.
Some fans speculated that his current appearance, including his haircut and beard, made him look quite different from his playing days at the Emirates.
One fan commented on X: “Drury didn`t recognise Johan Djourou there, and fair enough.”
Another user humorously remarked: “I love how Skysports didn’t notice Djourou next to Gilberto Silva lool”.
A third person joked: “Johan Djourou aura in 2025 we needed it.”
A fourth commenter added critically: “Commentator acknowledges Gilberto Silva sitting in the stand watching the game but failed to recognise Johan Djourou as a former player of Arsenal. Really bad!”
After retiring from playing, Djourou now works as a pundit for DAZN in France.
Following his departure from Arsenal in 2014, he played in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and Denmark before ending his career.
The 38-year-old retired in 2021 but reflects fondly on his time playing for Arsenal.
He shared with Flashscore: “I had some incredible moments [at Arsenal], some incredible seasons.
“I had some injuries, I had some complicated moments too.
“But overall, playing in the Champions League, reaching the final, being in the Carling Cup final, competing for the title, and being in Europe every year – it was great.
“I had the chance to establish myself and play in some significant matches.
“To deliver strong performances and to be recognized in some seasons as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, especially by Arsène [Wenger] and my teammates.
“I`m not Sergio Ramos, I`m not Gerard Piqué, I was Johan Djourou.
“And I played in some very, very, very big games, and I`m very proud of that.”
