Ilia Topuria, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, has expressed openness to potentially competing in the welterweight division.
During a recent press conference, Topuria addressed the possibility of moving up in weight. He stated that his decision would largely depend on fan demand and the availability of exciting challenges against top opponents.
Moving to welterweight? Sure, why not? It depends on whether the fans want to see my fight in welterweight. And whether I have a titleholder company [referring to a potential opponent]. I fight to entertain people. Obviously, I also need to be motivated by the challenge, so I do not close the door to welterweight. If an opportunity arises and there is an exciting fight, I agree.
Topuria reiterated that entertaining the audience and seeking out compelling matchups are his primary motivations as a fighter, suggesting that a move to welterweight could be on the table if the right opportunity arises.
