UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria has expressed significant disdain for his potential challenger, Arman Tsarukyan, labeling him as immature and lacking genuine accomplishments. Topuria, who is set to defend his title against interim champion Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250 on June 14, made these critical remarks during a recent appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show.”
While acknowledging Tsarukyan’s capabilities within the octagon, Topuria strongly criticized his public persona and perceived ostentatious displays of wealth. “I’m really impressed with how dumb he is,” Topuria stated. “He looks like a kid. His mentality. He’s dumb as hell. Everything I saw about him on the internet is embarrassing. … The thing that I don’t like is when they play that they’re rich, and they show all that money. Bro, you’re not even rich… The only things that you have is money, and you’re spending your father’s money, not even yours. He’s a f\*\*king kid.”
Topuria, who remains undefeated at 17-0, secured his lightweight title by knocking out Charles Oliveira at UFC 317. The promotion’s decision to introduce an interim title for Gaethje’s bout with Paddy Pimblett, rather than immediately booking Tsarukyan, has added fuel to their rivalry. Tsarukyan, meanwhile, has continued to compete in grappling and wrestling events while maintaining a verbal sparring match with Topuria.
Tsarukyan last competed at UFC Qatar in November, extending his winning streak to five with a second-round submission win over Dan Hooker. He holds a professional record of 23-3, with notable UFC victories against Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush.
