JL Bourg has made a historic return to the EuroCup final, marking their second appearance in just two years. Following their defeat to Paris in 2024, the French club now faces a Turkish opponent, Besiktas, having impressively eliminated Turk Telekom in the semi-finals this Wednesday. Beyond merely securing a spot, the manner in which Frédéric Fauthoux’s team fought their way to qualification has been truly outstanding.
After a dominant performance by the Turkish team in the first game of the series, which saw Turk Telekom win decisively (71-99), it seemed unlikely that the Bressans could turn the tide. Yet, JL Bourg showcased immense resilience, securing a hard-fought victory in Ankara (73-76) to force a decisive third game. They then brilliantly clinched the series this Wednesday at Ekinox with a commanding 94-78 win.
Following a closely contested first half (43-39), Bourg-en-Bresse significantly extended their lead after the break, propelled by an excellent performance from Both Gach, who contributed 21 points and 6 rebounds and was arguably the MVP of the confrontation. Crucial contributions also came from Adam Mokoka (15 points, 5 rebounds) and Darius McGhee (13 points, 7 assists), who had been quieter in Game 2.
