Renato Moicano and Chris Duncan, who have trained together for years at American Top Team (ATT), are set to face each other as opponents in the main event of UFC Vegas 115. This highly anticipated lightweight bout will take place on April 4, 2026, at the newly rebranded Meta APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will see Moicano defending his ranking position against a surging former gym mate, Duncan, who is seeking his first marquee victory.
Renato Moicano vs. Chris Duncan: The Matchup
The main event, dubbed UFC Fight Night: Moicano vs. Duncan, features two fighters deeply rooted in the American Top Team. Moicano, a long-standing ATT veteran since 2017, made his transition to the lightweight division in 2020, accumulating impressive wins against notable names like Jalin Turner, Benoit Saint Denis, Calvin Kattar, and Cub Swanson. Chris Duncan, a Scottish lightweight boasting a 15-2 record within and outside the UFC, also considers ATT his home. He is entering this fight on the heels of a submission victory over Terrance McKinney in December 2025.
Moicano is looking to bounce back from a challenging 2025, where he suffered back-to-back losses—a first-round submission to Islam Makhachev in January and a decision loss to Beneil Dariush in June. In contrast, Duncan has been on a strong upward trajectory, rebuilding his momentum since a 2024 submission loss to Manuel Torres. His recent victories include a first-round guillotine choke against Bolaji Oki in 2024 and his win over McKinney last year.
The American Top Team Dilemma
Both fighters openly discussed the unusual situation of competing against a gym mate during fight week, offering slightly different, yet respectful, perspectives. Duncan emphasized that the strong bond forged within American Top Team extends beyond the cage, even as they aim to thwart each other’s ambitions.
“He was in the same gym and we were in the sauna together… a lot of people don’t get what I’m doing, and me and Mo do. We have so much respect for each other that it’s just going to be fighting… Whoever wins, wins, and people can’t fathom that… people are not bred like me, where I’m on a different level.”
Moicano shed light on ATT’s internal policy, stating that owner Dan Lambert and the coaching staff generally prefer to avoid teammate matchups. He acknowledged that with such a high concentration of elite fighters, these collisions are sometimes unavoidable. Moicano cited flyweights Kyoji Horiguchi and Alexandre Pantoja as an example of other teammates who might eventually have to face each other with high stakes.
“The gym always tries to avoid this situation. Dan Lambert and all the coaches want to avoid it as much as possible because it’s not good, people from the same gym fighting, that’s not the best scenario. But sometimes you have to do that because you don’t have any option, and I’m talking in a career mode. I’ve been one year out and they gave me this opportunity for the main event, and at the same time Chris Duncan wants to be in the rankings, so it was beneficial for everybody but not for the gym.
“I tell the fighters, you don’t want to fight another guy from your gym, but that could happen, we never know. At ATT you have guys like Kyoji Horiguchi and Pantoja, and they’re the best at 125 and eventually they’re going to fight each other. Sometimes you have to fight your teammates and it’s tough.”
“It was a little bit different training under the same roof as Chris because I never thought I would fight somebody from American Top Team, but it happens and I just have to be cordial. I respect him, I have nothing against him, I just want to win. I want to win that fight and I have no bad blood at all.”
Duncan, for his part, highlighted the clarity that such a matchup brings: two teammates from the same gym, training in separate camps, sharing an understanding that the outcome will significantly impact their standing in the lightweight division. Both fighters are adamant that their friendship will endure beyond whatever transpires in Las Vegas, but they both acknowledge that the fight itself must come first.
