Gary Lineker, who is stepping down from his role as host of Match of the Day, is surprisingly scheduled to make an appearance at this year`s Glastonbury Festival.
The renowned music festival, set to take place in June, boasts a star-studded lineup of headliners including The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, and Neil Young.
Joining these musical and comedic talents will be Gary Lineker, the former football star for Leicester and England, who transitioned into sports commentary.
After a quarter of a century hosting Match of the Day, Lineker is preparing to leave his position at the end of the current season. However, he will soon be back in the public eye as part of the Glastonbury Festival`s 'Silver Hayes' program.
While Silver Hayes is typically known for dance music, Lineker is scheduled to participate in 'The Information' stage.
Glastonbury`s official website describes 'The Information' as “a forum for discussions, debates, and insights into today`s important current events and cultural topics,” operating under the motto “optimism is a political act.”
Former Lionesses Jill Scott and Carly Telford, currently a commercial manager at Chelsea Women`s FC, are also slated to speak at the event.
Adding to the diverse lineup, Lucy Monkman, a player for Dulwich Hamlet, will perform a DJ set.
'The Information' is presented as “a dedicated space for discussion and debate… featuring a wide range of speakers, activists, and political figures.”
The specific topic of Lineker`s discussion has not yet been officially announced.
Lineker recently mentioned in an interview with FourFourTwo magazine that he doesn`t anticipate future work with the BBC after his departure from Match of the Day.
He has agreed to be on The Assembly, an ITV program from last year that features celebrities being interviewed by individuals with autism, neurodevelopmental conditions, and learning disabilities.
However, his primary focus is expected to be on his Goalhanger Podcasts network, which includes the popular football podcast The Rest is Football, along with other successful podcasts like The Rest is Politics and The Rest is History.
