Frank Warren, the promoter of former WBO interim heavyweight champion Joe Joyce, has shared his thoughts on his fighter`s recent loss to Filip Hrgovic.
“I didn`t want to say this publicly,” Warren admitted, “but it`s going to be very difficult for him to get back into contention. He`s been an incredible and brave fighter throughout his career, a strong amateur, and an Olympic silver medalist. I believe he will consider his next steps. Boxing is a sport where age can become a significant factor.”
Warren continued, “I was genuinely surprised by the outcome. When Joyce absorbed some heavy blows early on, I feared he might lose quickly. However, Joe weathered the storm. The fans adore him, don`t they? He`s a good man. The judges didn`t score the fight in his favor, but I won`t criticize a fighter when he`s down.”
To recap, Hrgovic secured a unanimous decision victory over Joyce in the main event of a boxing event in Manchester on April 5th.
