Pepijn Lijnders, who previously served as assistant manager under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, is reportedly poised to join Pep Guardiola`s coaching staff at Manchester City as his new No2.
The 42-year-old Dutchman has been unattached since being dismissed as head coach of RB Salzburg in December.
Lijnders took the Salzburg role after departing Liverpool concurrently with his colleague Klopp.
He served as assistant manager to Klopp at Anfield for a total of nine years across two periods.
During his time at Liverpool, he was part of the coaching setup that competed fiercely with Guardiola`s Manchester City for the Premier League title.
Reports from The Times indicate that Lijnders is now expected to join the coaching ranks of their former rivals.
The report suggests he will work in close collaboration with Guardiola, filling a void left by the departures of three members of the Spaniard`s support staff.
This comes after Juanma Lillo, Inigo Dominguez, and Carlos Vicens (who took over SC Braga in Portugal) all recently left the club.
Earlier this month, Lijnders was considered as a candidate for the vacant head coach position at Norwich City.
Norwich dismissed Johannes Hoff Thorup and decided against appointing caretaker manager Jack Wilshere permanently.
Although Lijnders was interviewed, Norwich ultimately appointed Liam Manning from Bristol City.
The former Liverpool assistant is expected to link up with Manchester City in time for next month`s Club World Cup tournament.
A video caption noted Pep Guardiola`s strong statement about a squad issue.
Former Manchester City defender Kolo Toure was also reportedly considered for a coaching role.
Toure, a former player for the club, has been working with their Under-18 squad.
The 44-year-old has previous first-team coaching experience from his time under Brendan Rodgers at both Celtic and Leicester.
He also had a brief spell as manager of Wigan Athletic.
