Real Madrid Considers Re-signing Nico Paz
Real Madrid is reportedly poised to activate a buy-back clause this summer to bring Nico Paz back to the club. This follows their decision last year not to exercise the option, which allowed Paz to continue his development at Como for another season.
The Spanish giants can reacquire the promising young player for €9 million. However, they may opt to compensate Como differently for their role in his development. This strategy of loaning out and then potentially re-signing talented youngsters has yielded positive results with other players, such as Jacobo Ramon.
Paz's chances of securing a permanent spot at Real Madrid would significantly improve if Alvaro Arbeloa, his former coach at Castilla, were appointed as the first-team manager. Otherwise, a loan return to Como, particularly if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League, or a transfer to another club, remains a possibility if a different head coach doesn't deem him ready for the senior squad.
Carlalberto Ludi, Como's director, addressed the situation, stating, "We are unable to control the decisions made by other clubs. We are very happy with Nico, and he feels the same way about us. Qualification for European competition would be highly beneficial for us. The likelihood of him remaining here is still quite high, although the upcoming World Cup is another factor we must consider."
Last year, a move for Paz to the Santiago Bernabéu appeared certain around this time, but Real Madrid ultimately decided against it after some internal changes. While the €9 million buy-back fee is relatively small for Real Madrid compared to Paz's potential market value, it makes sense for them to leave him at Como if they don't foresee him becoming a regular first-team player. The complexities of the situation could also attract other clubs that have shown interest in the player for some time.
