In its inaugural season in Europe’s most prestigious basketball competition, Hapoel Tel Aviv appears to have made significant, perhaps even excessive, investments. The Israeli club has reportedly been hit with a €5 million fine by the Euroleague. This penalty is said to be for non-compliance with financial fair play regulations and exceeding the maximum permitted salary cap.
This news comes as little surprise, especially considering the substantial contracts awarded to star players such as Vasilije Micic and Elijah Bryant. Despite its rookie status in the competition, the club holds one of the top three highest salary bills in the Euroleague and is currently well-positioned to reach the playoffs.
