Eastern Conference Wild Card Playoff Race Heats Up

The battle for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference is incredibly tight, with four teams separated by just two points as we head into Friday`s games.

Three of these teams will be playing on Friday:

• The Montreal Canadiens, currently holding the wild-card spot, are playing against the Carolina Hurricanes.
• The Columbus Blue Jackets are hosting the Vancouver Canucks.
• The New York Rangers will play against the Anaheim Ducks.
• The New York Islanders are not playing on Friday, but will play on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Every game and every point is crucial for these teams. Two upcoming games will be particularly important: Islanders versus Rangers on April 10th, and Islanders versus Blue Jackets on April 17th, the last day of the regular season.

Current projections from Stathletes give the Montreal Canadiens the best chance to make the playoffs (43.7%), followed by the Blue Jackets (18.5%), Islanders (18.4%), and Rangers (18.1%). Montreal also has the highest probability of advancing to the second round (11.2%).

With less than three weeks remaining until April 17th, we will continue to provide updates on the NHL playoff race and the teams vying for position in the 2025 NHL draft lottery.
