The legendary American mixed martial arts figure and former UFC champion across two weight divisions, Daniel Cormier, is confident that a clash between rising stars Ilia Topuria and Arman Tsarukyan is unavoidable for the promotion.
Cormier offered high praise for Tsarukyan, noting his consistent conditioning and suggesting he might be the best competitor in the lightweight division, second only to current champion Islam Makhachev.
“Arman does everything necessary to stay in shape. This guy is possibly the best lightweight in the world after Islam’s departure. He is really good. He is big, strong, and physically developed,” Cormier stated.
“Topuria is amazing. I think Ilia and Arman are the two best guys in the world. I think sooner or later they will have to fight. Paddy Pimblett is amazing, Justin Gaethje is amazing, but Arman and Ilia seem to have something special.”
Cormier emphasized that the appeal of the fight extends beyond pure technique, focusing on the competitive dynamic between the two elite athletes.
“It`s not just in terms of skill, but in terms of relationships around which you can build a great fight. So yes, I think Arman is fantastic; he is good.”
In related news concerning Topuria, the featherweight champion recently postponed his title defense indefinitely following allegations of domestic violence made by his ex-wife.
