The Credit One Charleston Open will be the first Hologic WTA Tour clay tournament to utilize Electronic Line Calling Live (ELC Live), debuting at the event from March 29 to April 6.
ELC Live, which automates “out” calls during matches, has seen broad adoption across various court surfaces. Charleston will mark the first instance of a Hologic WTA Tour event employing this technology on clay for both qualifying and main-draw matches.
Known for its optimized accuracy and consistency, ELC Live`s implementation follows rigorous testing over several seasons, as detailed in the video below. This season will also see ELC Live`s integration at WTA 1000 events, specifically the Mutua Madrid Open and the Internazionali BNL d`Italia in Rome.
Charleston Tournament Director Bob Moran commented, “The introduction of Electronic Line Calling at the Credit One Charleston Open is a significant milestone, not only for our tournament but for all clay court events within the Hologic WTA Tour.” He added, “This innovative technology will elevate the precision and reliability of line calls on clay courts, establishing a new benchmark in tennis. By embracing this advancement, we are committed to providing an enhanced and more seamless experience for players and fans alike, thereby raising the overall quality of competition at clay tournaments moving forward.”
Fabrice Chouquet, WTA Senior Vice President – Competition & On-Site Operations, stated, “We extend our gratitude to Charleston for adopting Electronic Line Calling Live this year and are encouraged to witness the increasing number of WTA tournaments recognizing the benefits of evolving technology. ELC Live serves as an effective officiating tool, ensuring consistent and complete accuracy in line calls, leading to fewer interruptions during play—a benefit for players, fans, media, and the overall execution of tournaments.”
This implementation is part of a wider set of innovations being rolled out across the Hologic WTA Tour, including the challenge-based Video Review System, which is also available on two courts in Charleston.
