Covington: Makhachev Mimics Khabib, Won’t Move to Welterweight

MMA News

Former UFC welterweight title contender Colby Covington believes lightweight champion Islam Makhachev will not move up to the welterweight division.

Covington is confident that despite discussions about a potential move, Makhachev will not take the risk.

“Will Makhachev move up to welterweight? No,” Covington stated. “He`s doing exactly what his daddy Khabib did. They talk about moving up to welterweight and fighting for a second belt, but they never actually do it. It`s all talk.”

Covington added, “He`s just copying Khabib`s playbook from back in the day, pretending to be incredibly tough and the best pound-for-pound fighter. But he`s not proving it by moving up. If he genuinely wanted to, he would have done it already.”
