Cost to Sack Ange Postecoglou Revealed: Millions on Top of Europa League Bonus

Football News

The potential financial cost for Tottenham Hotspur to dismiss manager Ange Postecoglou has been disclosed.

The Australian coach delivered on his promise to “always win things” in his second season, leading the team to victory in the Europa League and ending the club`s 17-year trophy drought.

However, a disappointing 17th-place finish in the Premier League, marked by 22 defeats – the highest number ever for a team that avoided relegation – has put Postecoglou`s position in serious jeopardy.

Should chairman Daniel Levy decide to remove “Big Ange”, the decision would reportedly result in the 59-year-old manager receiving a compensation package worth around £4 million.

According to reports, this compensation figure is in addition to the £2 million bonus Postecoglou earned for winning the Europa League and securing Tottenham`s spot in the Champions League next season.

Postecoglou currently has two years remaining on his Spurs contract. The terms of his potential exit were reportedly decided before he signed his deal after leaving Celtic.

Following a holiday, the manager is said to have returned and is awaiting clarity on his future at the club.

During the team`s trophy parade, Postecoglou hinted at wanting to stay, remarking: “All the best TV series, season three is better than season two.”

Nevertheless, the final decision regarding his future rests with Chairman Levy.

Beyond the estimated £4 million severance cost for Postecoglou himself, the overall expense for sacking him and subsequently appointing a new manager could amount to approximately £10 million for Spurs.

Brentford`s Thomas Frank and Fulham boss Marco Silva are reportedly considered leading candidates to potentially take over.

While the coaching situation is uncertain, the club is also undergoing a significant structural shake-up behind the scenes.

Executive director Donna Cullen, who served for 20 years, has left the club. Additionally, Ryan Mason has departed to pursue his managerial career, taking the vacant position at Championship side West Brom.

These departures are anticipated to be among several changes at the club this summer, a wave which may include Postecoglou.

The organisational restructuring also involves the appointment of Vinai Venkatesham, formerly CEO of rival club Arsenal, as the new CEO at Tottenham.

Sources suggest these recent moves could indicate a prelude to fresh investment from the club`s majority owners, Enic.
